5 tips to help you persevere and succeed in your New Year's resolution» Blog
If you have a New Year's resolution, here are my top five tips to help you persevere and succeed. Statistics indicate that only 8% of people actually stick to their resolutions. You may have noticed that the gym is full in January, and half-empty mid-February.
My top 5 tips
1) Clarify WHY you want what you want. Describe all the reasons and benefits of your resolution (goal). You will easily fill a whole page if you really give it a go.
This simple mind tool helped me quit smoking!
2) VISUALISE your goal as often as possible. If you can imagine it, you can do it too. Imagine how you will look or how your situation will look and also how you will feel. Experience it as if it has already happened. The brain does not recognize fantasy from reality and writes important information (the one you want to be a reality). Visualization technique is used by top athletes and Hollywood stars ...
Remind yourself of your goal every day. Create a vision board or put a picture as a wallpaper on your phone. Tell your friends and family and people around you. This will help your goal and dreams to feel more real.
3) BELIEVE that is is possible. Sometimes we sabotage ourselves and we can not explain why. We know what we want to do and yet we do not do it! In order to believe that your goal is possible, make sure that:
- it is feasible (you have enough time, energy, resources, support, etc.)
- See point 1, know why you really want to, remind yourself of the benefits
- Explore your beliefs and opinions around the given goal and explore your mindset to see if it supports or sabotages you. For example, your goal is to make a lot of money in your business, nice! But what you may not realise is that at the same time you are not aware of your belief that if you are well off, others will envy and harm you.
Such belief will sabotage you inconspicuously. Explore all your beliefs and possible obstacles to see if they are against or pro your goal.
4) Apply the 5 SECOND RULE. You have five seconds to make the right decision. For example if you have a bad habit of buying chocolate even if you do not want to, count from 5 to 0 and make the right decision. This rule helps me get up in the morning when I do not want to. I count from 5 to 0 and imagine a rocket launching into the space (Mel Robbins teaches this in her lectures and seminars).
5) Make it FUN. Whatever it is, it will be easier if you actually enjoy the process. See how you can make it just 5% more fun each day.
Happy New Year 2019!
